How it works

Four steps, and what happens at each one.

Why these four steps

Each one exists to get your case in front of a lawyer able to act on it, not to put obstacles in the way. You do not need to know which law might apply before you start — that is worked out after a firm has read your file, not before.

01

You answer questions

They start broad and get more specific based on what you say. You can stop and come back — everything is saved as you go.

02

You send documents

Payslips, time records, letters, messages. Your browser locks each one with a key that only exists on your device before it leaves, so we hold files we cannot open.

03

A law firm reads it

We prepare your case and send it to an employment law firm in California. They decide whether they can act for you. They see your employer's name and the kind of problem before they look at anything else, so they can check for conflicts.

04

You hear back

If they take it on, you deal with them directly from that point, and you choose whether to hand your documents over to them. If they do not, we tell you, and that is not a decision about whether you have a claim.

What we are

Worker Rights Line is not a law firm and cannot give you legal advice. Nothing on this site creates a relationship between you and a lawyer, and reading it is not the same as being advised.

Tell us what happened. A law firm takes it from there.

The questions take most people well under an hour, and you can do them in pieces. Send what you have — a gap is a normal part of a case and not a reason to stop.

Already started? Pick up where you left off

Claims about work usually have time limits, and they can be shorter than people expect. We cannot tell you what your own time limit is — that depends on your situation. If this matters to you, it is worth finding out sooner rather than later.
